    About

Sumi Tei Yakiniku is big on wood and meats. The dining room size is generous, with plenty of space between wood-partitioned tables that offer privacy for each group of diners. Meats are just as generous, with choices spanning local Thai-French beef to prime A5 Japanese wagyu. The highlight here is the Imperial wagyu, which reputedly comes from a special breed of cattle usually available only to the royal family of Japan. The Imperial karubi and zabuton is decorated with a mesmerising web of ‘white snow’, a promise of the delicious, buttery, melt-in-mouth goodness to come once the beef goes onto the grill. Get the tasting platter for the imperial wagyu to sample all the different cuts brought in by Sumi Tei. Each order of wagyu also comes with a certificate stating the beef’s identification number, so you can rest assured that everything’s legit. (October 2018)

    The buzz

“This Japanese barbecue’s main attraction is the melt-in-your-mouth A5-grade wagyu, which the owners rather loftily claim comes from a special breed usually only available to the imperial family of Japan.” -BK Magazine
