      About

When they tell you Bangkok is a kooky city, they mean it. The Witch Restaurant & Pub is exactly as the name promises: roam amidst antique-looking European furniture (for sale!) and soak in a universe of witchy paraphernalia, including witch hats, bats, broomsticks, and wait staff dressed in gothic horror get-ups. The effect isn’t so much terrifying as it is charming and often hilarious, and this is fortunately a good one for the kids, who seem to dig the theatrics. The food has a little bit of everything for everyone: Western grill, Japanese-inspired plates, and Thai classics. Thankfully it’s all very respectably presented, so don’t worry about plastic worms or human eyeballs in your food. Chow down on Smoked Pork Knuckle with a side of Sauerkraut, Fish & Chips, and a chunky Pork Chop with Mashed Potatoes.

Other meaty options abound in the form of smoked German sausages, Grilled Pork Ribs, and hefty pastas like the creamy Carbonara. But for our money, we’d opt for something local like the Green Curry or Steamed Prawns with Glass Noodles in a briny seafood sauce, or the Squid Ink Pasta tossed with fiery Thai green peppers and local seafood. We know the surroundings may seem gimmicky, but the food is well-portioned and yummy, and the weird surroundings get kind of charming after a while. No one’s ever said Bangkok is boring. (May 2018)
