    You literally dine beside the beach at this lovely Thai restaurant at the edges of The Surin Phuket resort. An alfresco dining experience with the superb view and natural music of the sea as your backdrop, touched with a calming sea breeze, there’s more than a hint of an exotic getaway at this restaurant, all the better for some romance or a true sense of escape.

    The food, a hefty, seafood-forward menu of Thai classics, tops up the experience. This isn’t your usual tourist menu of pad thais and tom yum soups: there’s an assured, sophisticated hand at work. The meal opens with a salad of seafood tossed in a zingy sauce of chili and lemongrass, or more understated numbers like egg parcels stuffed with basil-studded minced chicken and mushrooms. For soups, you can choose to take a detour from more popular Thai soups to Tom Kha Poo Nim, a stew-like coconut milk soup enriched with soft-shell crab and kaffir lime leaves. For entrees, it’s a range of flavors, from crispy-skinned duck in a Chinese-style sauce of ginger and celery, to tender white snapper in a rich red curry.

    For dessert, choose between familiar favorites, like mango sticky rice, or simply soak in the stunning view. Beach-side dining doesn’t get better than this. (May 2018)
