    It quickly becomes apparent when you step into Magpie that this won’t be just another run-of-the-mill café spot. With an aesthetic that includes the use of bold prints and a generous application of ferns, this is clearly an establishment with character. And that makes sense too, seeing as the café was opened by the acclaimed designer of Jim Thompson’s home textiles department.

    Of course, the setting isn’t the only factor to make or break a café – food plays an irreplaceable part and in this, Magpie delivers splendidly. Savour every bite of the café’s Salmon Carpaccio, which comes enhanced with chilli lime dressing for an Asian twist; this addictive dish will leave you finishing up every last scrap and longing for more! The Wagyu Burger Cheese is another must-try option – comforting, hearty, and downright indulgent, the burger is a sure-fire way to tickle the tastebuds and fill the tummy. Other dishes you can’t miss out on include the Paella Tomyum Seafood, a delicious Thai take on the beloved classic, the Slow Roasted Pork Belly, and the Egg White Frittata (a delightful option for vegetarians).

    Don’t forget to peruse the drinks menu for a suitable beverage to go with your meal; Magpie does the usual coffee favourites but it does them reliably well – it’s an all-rounded experience you’ll be getting in this café, and then some, that’s for sure! (August 2017)
