    One look at Audrey Café’s charming, contemporary décor and one cannot doubt the French influence that went into creating a space that’s whimsical, delicate, and elegant, all at once. That’s not to say that intrepid founder, Janista Charoonsmith, has given up her Thai roots completely, however. Determined to meld her love of French touches with her heritage, the fare is a fusion of both Thai comfort food and European classics.

    One end of the spectrum features Thai signatures such as Fried Crispy Pork Knuckle with Chilli & Basil, Boat Noodles, and a Thai Spicy Hot & Sour Soup with Cha-Om and Prawn. The other is a Western menu that’s equally varied, with traditional options including Coq au Vin, a slew of pizzas, and pastas galore. Expect the middle, then, to have unique items like “Ramen Pad Thai”, essentially a take on Phad Thai that boasts fried ramen paired with deep fried soft shell crab and a tamarind sauce, Grilled Marinated Pork Wrapped in White Noodles, and stir-fried mixed seafood served with a cream of chilli oil. Honestly, there’s simply too much to note down all at once and we’re sure you’ll need several visits before you can say you’ve sampled everything. By then, you might have picked out sumptuous favourites that’ll keep you coming back for more. Sneaky, sneaky, Audrey Café! But we’re sure many are willing victims. (August 2016)
