      About

Off the busy streets of Silom lies this lovely nook that transports you to a Silk Road fantasy. This is the popular Lebanese-Indian restaurant’s second branch, bringing its brand of mezze-meets-masala cuisine to the heart of Bangkok. Teasing out the subtle and ancient overlaps between the cuisines of two great civilisations-- a shared love of spices, communal dining, aromatic braises, and flatbreads-- Al Saray first hits you with an explosion of fragrances, then charms you with its subtle, elegant Middle-Eastern inspired decor, and attentive service.

Two distinct cuisines start to meld gently at the edges. Cumin-coated baked fish sits atop a mound of fluffy basmati rice, doused in liberal lashings of seafood gravy, lamb and beef scented with Ras el Hanout - a melange of Middle-Eastern spices - melt into a spicy stew, daals, raitas, and mezzes share the same table, soaked up by pitas and naan alike. Joining the party are sizzling doners and charred-edged tandoori meats, rounded off by a pairing of delightfully sweet Indian Gulab Jamun and Lebanese Baklava. The real treat here is how everything goes so well together, a true testament to the magic of world cuisines, and the masterful techniques evolved from some of the oldest culinary traditions in the world. Travel the Silk Road and sample the best of two great cultures right in the heart of Silom. (January 2017)
