About
Il Fumo, under the direction of Chef Nelson Amorim, proposes new-wave Portuguese
cuisine – long for the past, respect for the tradition, care for great produce, yet not afraid to
look outward and be inspired by other cultures.
Founded in late 2015 by food-obsessed couple Choti & Debby Leenutaphong (80/20, Vesper, La Dotta & 1919 Italian Bar & Restaurant) il Fumo has come a long way from its beginning. First started as
contemporary Italian grill with emphasis on using unique high-quality products from
Europe, we were the first to bring to Thailand Chianina and Rubia Gallega beefs from Italy
and Spain respectively. Since then, we have established ourselves as one of Bangkok's top
fine dining restaurants and also garnered a couple of awards in the
process including L'Assiette MICHELIN in Thailand's MICHELIN Guide 2018, 2019 & 2020, BK Magazine's TOP TABLES 2016, 2017 & 2018 and Thailand Tatler's Best Restaurants 2016, 2017 & 2018 (of which we are ranked no. 9 in 2018).
These achievements are attributed largely to our Portuguese-born head chef, Nelson
Amorim (formely working at 3-Michelin star Otto e Mezzo Bombana in Hong Kong). We are
impressed by his cooking prowess, so much so that since late last year, we have gradually
embraced his personal brand of new Portuguese gastronomy. Together with Sous Chef
Ricardo Nunes (formerly working at 2 Michelin-star Belcanto in Lisbon), also from
Portugal, they aim to bring the new taste of their country into their creations – both from
their childhood memories and experiences working in kitchens all over the world. What
remains, though, is our house's continued obsession with artisanal produce and respect for
seasonality.
Aside from our food, we are proud to showcase our selection of wines - predominantly
from Italy, Portugal and Spain - curated by our sommelier Thanakorn Mankit.
As for the ambience, il Fumo is located in a two-story house, originally built in the early
20th century by the descendants of King Rama IV. We feature a comfortable main dining
room, a bar room as well as a terrace area where our guests can escape from the hustling
and bustling of Bangkok downtown. In addition, il Fumo offers the cosiness of two private
rooms, for up to 16 guests. (March 2018)
The buzz
“Plenty of nostalgia infuses the Rama V-style house and the bar, which is all wood paneling and tufted leather. The white dining room’s minimal elegance makes for a clever contrast, creating two very distinct venues under one roof.” -BK Magazine
