This Michelin Guide restaurant may not look like much from the outside, but venture in for delicious bites in an authentic Thai experience. Tracing its roots back more than half a century, Methavalai Sorndaeng is popular with locals for their excellent food and reasonable prices. With live 80s Thai karaoke music blaring from the speakers, and sweeping views of the stunning Democracy Monument in Bangkok, Phra Nakhon is the place to visit. There is even a small private room where smaller groups of diners can enjoy their meals in a separate area.

The lengthy menu is crafted in Royal Thai style, meaning there is a focus on premium ingredients, presentation, and the omission of things like meat and fish bones that are deemed “unfit” for royal consumption. This is one place where diners can literally feast like kings and queens. Start with the Deep Fried Crab Meat Balls, a simple snack of crab meat deep-fried to perfection. Crisp outside and delightfully tender, this item is sure to whet your appetite. The Spicy Winged Bean Salad is a great option for diners who wish to indulge in something a little healthier. Made with chilli, pork, and winged beans, this dish is perfect on its own or with a side of steamed Jasmine rice to soak up the sauce. (August 2019)
