      About

      Surrounded by lush gardens and small ponds, Thipthara holds court with its pretty open-air pavilions that are furnished with antiques and traditional art. By night, the soft sunset casts a lovely glow on the alfresco dining area, turning it into a destination for romance.

      From the menu, expect traditional Thai cuisine executed with finesse. The Tom Kha Gai, for instance, is an aromatic black chicken soup laced with galangal and a hint of citrus. Order the Yum Som O Goong Phao for a visual treat — the salad of grilled river prawns and organic pomelo is prepared tableside, tossed with toasted coconut, dried shrimp, and kaffir lime leaf.

      When it comes to curries, Thipthara doesn’t hold back on the spiciness. The Gaeng Phed Ped Yang, for instance, is a fiery red broth simmered with tender, succulent silences of marbled roast duck. The vegetarian version, packed with tofu and seasonal greens, ranks equally high on the heat list. For a milder curry, try the Chu Chee Poo, a slightly sweet soft shell crab curry perfumed with kaffir lime leaf.

      For mains, tuck into well-seasoned meats such as the Phad Prik Khing Moo Grob, crispy pork belly with red curry and ginger, or the Sua Rong Hai, a generous slab of striploin accompanied by a spicy tamarind sauce. If carbs are a must-have, don’t miss out on the Khao Phad Sabparod — the fried rice with Chinese sausage and prawns comes with chunks of sweet pineapple that will help cut through all that spice.
