    CHICHI at Amoy Street is a modern Asian Japanese restaurant serving up plates that have been creatively tweaked with ingredients you wouldn’t normally expect. With a kitchen helmed by chef Daniel Yee, the menu is split between a la carte, an eight-course and a 10-course option. Either choose your own small bites, rice, noodles, mains, and desserts, or let the folks at CHICHI take you on their gourmet journey, step by step.

    Start with the Hamachi as an appetiser before feasting your way through the eight and 10-course sets, which consist of CHICHI’s signature dishes. Dressed with peanut butter sauce, the Hamachi gives a hint of spice with the interesting addition of Szechuan peppercorn. Following this, the Spicy Chawanmushi is a fiery twist on the original Japanese egg dish, this time with Szechuan pepper, burnt corn kernel, edamame and spring onions sprinkled on top of steamed eggs. Other favourites include the rich and flavourful Ang Kar Prawns, its meaty and sweet flesh mingling well with the flavours from shio kombu and burnt butter.

    If rice is life (and let’s face it, it is), the Fried Brown Rice is a winner. The nutty, toasted notes from the Japanese brown rice are perfumed with garlic oil, while the shiitake mushrooms and hijiki seaweed lend an umami flavour to this everyday staple. Love truffles? The Smoked Chestnut and Truffle Gyoza is a must-try, with each piece stuffed with a generous amount of wild mushrooms, truffle and smoked chestnut puree. (Feb 2020)
