    About

With a beautiful view of the beach, and a bustling atmosphere, it’s easy to sit back and relax in Basil & Thyme. The food here leans towards the fiery side of Thai cuisine, so come prepared to take the heat. Start your meal with some appetisers to share, such as Satay Gai (chicken with peanut sauce) skewers, or some Tod Mun Goong -- fried prawn patties with a side of sweet and sour plum sauce for dipping.

Love curries? The ones at Basil & Thyme don’t shy away from the heat. Tuck into Kaeng Daeng, a creamy and spicy combination packed with your choice of chicken, beef, or seafood. For milder versions, try the Kaeng Khiew Hwan Gai, a lighter green curry that is more gentle on your tastebuds. Be sure to also order a side of roti (flat bread) to sop up all the spicy, creamy gravy.

The classic Pad Thai ranks high on the must-try list. Here, the stir-fried noodle dish is redolent with a smoky char, tossed with a generous helping of plump prawns, fresh seafood, or chicken. An interesting rice dish to try is the Khao Tom Pla, a watery congee made from soft-boiled rice with slices of tender fish.

Be sure to save some space for dessert as well. The crowd-favourite Khao Niao Mamuang is one of the best versions of mango sticky rice in town, drizzled with a fragrant and rich house-made coconut cream. (Jun 2019)
