    The dim lighting and chocolate-brown leather sofas at this intimate bar sets the mood for a dram (or two) of whisky. Which, of course, is the drink du jour here at The Cooperage. The extensive drinks menu is a tome of bounded pages filled with different whiskies from around the world, starting from affordably-priced 12-year-old malts from Glenfiddich and Glenrothes. You’ll find usual suspects like the Macallans, Hibiki, and Nikka on the menu, as well as rare bottles such as the Bowmore Mizunara.

    On the food front, tuck into canapes, donburi bowls, as well as pastas to go with your smoky spirits. The Spicy Prawn And Scallop Aglio Olio is tossed in a fiery, umami-packed oil, with plump crustaceans served with their heads on so you can suck out all the rich juices. There’s also a creamy Carbonara loaded with generous slivers of fried bacon, and Salmon with Spicy Mentaiko donburi garnished with gleaming ikura pearls. For heartier mains, order the Duck Confit. The fork-tender duck with a crispy skin is swathed in orange sauce, and comes with a fragrant truffle mash and a side salad -- a generous portion that’s enough for two to share. (Feb 2019)
